COCOBOD CEO fumes over abandoned imported Cocopeat at Sewhi Boako station

The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Randy Abbey, has expressed strong displeasure after discovering a large quantity of imported cocopeat abandoned at the Sewhi Boako Cocoa station in the Sewhi Wiaso Municipality of the Western North Region.
During a recent inspection visit to the Western North Region, Dr. Abbey was visibly upset upon encountering the neglected stockpile of cocopeat, a crucial material used in cocoa seedling production.
He questioned the rationale behind importing such a significant volume of the material only for it to be left unused and exposed to the elements of the weather.
“This is unacceptable,” Dr. Abbey said. “This is a critical input we invested in to boost cocoa production.
To see it lying here, wasted and unutilized, is deeply troubling.”
The COCOBOD boss has since called for an immediate investigation into the matter and has tasked local managers and officials to account for the abandoned input.
He also emphasised the need for strict monitoring and accountability in the distribution and use of agricultural inputs under COCOBOD’s programmes.
Farmers and residents in the area have welcomed Dr. Abbey’s concern, hoping it will lead to more efficient management of cocoa resources in the region.
