Aggrieved Menzgold customers renew call for gov't action

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold (CACM) has renewed its appeal to the government to take urgent steps toward retrieving their locked-up investments, as they mark seven years since the collapse of Menzgold Ghana Limited.
In a statement issued by the group’s convener, Fred Forson, the coalition urged President John Dramani Mahama and the Attorney-General to fulfil the pledge to appoint a Receiver to manage the recovery process.
The group further appealed to the government to consider a financial bailout on compassionate grounds in the upcoming 2026 budget.
CACM noted that the collapse of Menzgold has had devastating consequences for thousands of Ghanaians, both at home and abroad, with over 240 customers reported dead, some through suicide, while many others suffer health complications linked to financial distress.
The coalition acknowledged the government’s engagement with their plight, citing the July 29, 2025, meeting presided over by the President, but expressed concern about the slow pace of the ongoing criminal trial of Menzgold’s operators.
“The trial, which began as a speedy process, has now slowed down considerably.
We call on the Chief Justice and the courts to ensure the case proceeds on a daily basis so that justice will be served within a reasonable time,” the statement read.
The group emphasised that while it appreciates the government’s efforts so far, it expects bolder action and a deliberate plan to bring relief to affected customers who continue to suffer losses years after the company’s shutdown.
