A/R: Aboabo Assembly Member reportedly killed in violent clash at Mpatuam

Tensions have erupted in the Amansie West District following reports that the Assembly Member for Aboabo, Mr. Samuel Danquah, was fatally shot during a confrontation between local residents and military personnel allegedly linked to Asanko Mines in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred today during a protest sparked by the alleged killing of a miner by mine security.
The demonstration, which saw residents block key roads to demand accountability, quickly escalated into violence.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that soldiers deployed to the scene fired live ammunition into the crowd, leaving Mr. Danquah dead and at least two others critically injured.
In retaliation, some agitated youths reportedly set fire to vehicles belonging to Asanko Mines, deepening the unrest.
The turmoil has left Mpatuam on edge, with fears of further escalation if swift action is not taken.
Community leaders are calling for an immediate, transparent investigation into the shooting, stressing that justice for the Assembly Member and the injured victims is essential to restoring peace.
