SHS placement: We make changes on humanitarian grounds-CSSPS Dept. Coordinator

The Deputy National Coordinator of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), Abdul-Rahman Mohammed Demi, has explained that Senior High School placements are not meant to be altered once completed, except in special cases of genuine mistakes.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Chief Jerry Justice on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Demi said the establishment of solution centres was necessary to address such genuine errors made by parents and students during the school selection process.
He cited examples where a student living in Kasoa (Central Region) might mistakenly be placed in a school located in Osu (Accra), which could result in chronic lateness and hardship if the placement were not adjusted.
“Ideally, placements should remain as they are because schools declare their vacancies in advance.
However, some mistakes are genuine—sometimes due to parents relocating after choosing schools, or students not knowing the exact location of the schools they selected.
The solution centres exist to meet parents halfway and bring relief to families,” he explained.
Mr. Demi stressed that while it is often difficult to change placements into schools that have already filled their declared vacancies, the system allows room for alternative options in such situations, handled with “a human face.”
He also called for greater sensitisation and public education on the school selection process to help prevent avoidable errors in the future
