The Ministry of Education has issued a strong warning to teaching and non-teaching staff across the country as the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) officially begins today, Tuesday, August 5.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, on behalf of the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, the Ministry stressed that any staff member found aiding or abetting examination malpractice will face severe consequences, including dismissal and potential prosecution.

"The credibility and integrity of the examination process must be upheld at all times," the statement read. "Those who compromise this process will be dealt with swiftly, publicly, and unforgivingly."

The Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and national security agencies, has intensified surveillance and monitoring efforts to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.

Staff involved in any form of cheating, question leakage, or misconduct risk not only losing their jobs but also facing criminal charges.

The Ministry has emphasised zero tolerance for examination malpractice, warning that it will not shield anyone caught engaging in irregularities.

“Schools are places of learning, not breeding grounds for dishonesty,” the statement noted, urging all stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of honesty and accountability.

Dr. Apaak also encouraged all invigilators, supervisors, and school authorities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour during the examination period.

Meanwhile, the Ministry offered words of encouragement to this year’s candidates, urging them to approach the exams with confidence and integrity.

"You have been prepared well. Believe in yourselves and write with the assurance that your best effort is enough," the statement concluded.

The 2025 WASSCE is expected to run until mid-September, with thousands of candidates across the country sitting for the exams.
