W/R: NAiMOS launches major operation in Cape Three Points Forest Reserve, arrests illegal Miners, destroys equipment and drugs

In a decisive move to protect Ghana’s natural resources, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) has carried out a successful security operation in the Cape Three Points Forest Reserve, leading to the arrest of several illegal miners and the destruction of mining equipment and narcotic substances.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with security agencies and forestry officials, forms part of the government’s intensified efforts to combat illegal mining (galamsey) activities that continue to threaten the nation’s water bodies, forest reserves, and biodiversity.
During the swoop, multiple suspects were apprehended at various illegal mining sites deep within the forest.
Security officers also dismantled and destroyed mining equipment, including changfang machines, water pumps, and excavators used in the illicit operations.
A quantity of suspected narcotic substances was also seized and destroyed on-site.
According to NAIMOS officials, the coordinated operation was launched following intelligence reports about the resurgence of illegal mining within the Cape Three Points enclave — a vital ecological zone known for its rich biodiversity and role in climate protection.
Speaking after the raid, a NAIMOS spokesperson reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s protected areas remain free from environmental destruction.
He warned that the operation would be sustained and expanded to other hotspots, with no tolerance for illegal miners or their financiers.
