Cyber Security Authority, National Security arrests 32 Nigerians in Kasoa romance scam
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in a joint operation with National Security, has arrested 32 Nigerian nationals suspected to be operating a large-scale romance scam syndicate in Kasoa Tuba, in the Central Region.
The early morning operation, carried out at dawn, dealt what officials describe as another significant blow to cybercrime activities in Ghana.
The suspects were allegedly engaged in online romance scams, targeting unsuspecting victims through digital platforms and defrauding them of money under false pretences.
Security sources say the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance, leading to the identification of the syndicate’s base of operations.
Several electronic devices believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes were seized during the raid and are expected to form part of ongoing investigations.
In a statement following the operation, authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying the fight against cybercrime and dismantling organised criminal networks operating within the country.
The Cyber Security Authority emphasised that such enforcement actions are part of a broader strategy to make Ghana an unattractive destination for cybercriminal activities.
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be processed in accordance with Ghanaian law, as investigations continue.
Ghana has in recent years stepped up collaboration among security agencies to address the growing threat of cyber-enabled crimes, including romance scams, identity theft, and online fraud.
