W/R: Wassa communities cry for basic social amenities
Residents of Wassa Mangoase, Wassa Domeabra, Tamaklo, and Nyame-Tease in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region have expressed deep concern over the persistent lack of social amenities in their communities.
They are appealing to the government and municipal authorities to urgently intervene to ease their hardships.
In an interview with Asona Dehyie Kwateng, the residents lamented that despite repeated appeals to the Municipal Assembly for essential facilities, no meaningful action has been taken.
They cited the poor state of roads, lack of hospitals, inadequate school infrastructure, and water scarcity as major challenges affecting daily life.
The Chief of Wassa Mangoase, Nana Kwasi Allou, described the situation as dire, especially highlighting the danger posed by the community’s wooden bridges.
“Motorbikes have to cross three big rivers on a single piece of timber used as a bridge.
Our bridge is a death trap. We have been neglected for far too long, and the Assembly should have acted urgently to fix this,” he said.
Similarly, Nana Kwame Fori II, Chief of Wassa Domeabra, expressed worry over the absence of a proper health facility in the area.
“In emergencies, patients referred from the Domeabra CHPS compound to the Wassa Akropong Hospital must rely on motorbikes for transport.
Even pregnant women in labour are carried on motorbikes,” he lamented.
He appealed to authorities to support the completion of the abandoned CHPS compound, which is currently about 60% complete, to help improve access to healthcare.
Residents are hopeful that their renewed plea will draw the attention of policymakers and development partners to their plight, ensuring that the basic amenities every Ghanaian deserves are finally provided.
