The Ministry of Health (MoH) has condemned “the act of interference, aggression, and assault on health workers,” that occurred at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) Emergency Department and categorically, calling it “unfortunate”.

In a statement dated Monday, August 18, 2025, the ministry said it viewed “this development with utmost seriousness, as such actions compromise the delivery of critical healthcare services and endanger the lives of both patients and healthcare providers”.

As a matter of urgency, the ministry said it was taking “immediate” steps to “beef up security at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital to ensure the safety of staff, patients, and the general public”.

Additionally, it would “investigate the circumstances that led to the reported delay in care and address any gaps that may have contributed to the incident”.

“The Ministry reiterates that the safety and protection of healthcare workers remain a top priority and it will not tolerate any acts that threaten their well-being or disrupt essential healthcare delivery,” the statement emphasised.

The statement noted that the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, had visited the hospital, where he was given “first hand information” and assured “management and staff of the ministry’s support and protection”.

In conclusion, the ministry encouraged the public to “exercise patience, cooperation, and mutual respect at all times to enable healthcare workers to provide effective and timely-care”.
