Mahama orders immediate evacuation of Ghanaians from Iran amid rising tensions with Israel

The Mahama administration has announced the immediate evacuation of all Ghanaians residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran, following heightened tensions in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
According to an official government statement, the decision was made in the paramount interest of safeguarding Ghanaian lives as hostilities escalate in the region.
As part of the evacuation measures, Ghana's Embassy in Tehran has been closed with immediate effect to ensure the safety of all diplomatic staff.
The evacuation, which is being facilitated through land borders, includes Ghanaian diplomats, students, professionals, and other nationals living in Iran.
Government sources confirm that the operation is underway, with coordination from Ghanaian missions in neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, the government says it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Israel and will soon provide further guidance.
In the interim, it has directed a scale-down of operations at Ghana’s Embassy in Tel Aviv to the barest minimum. Ghanaian nationals in Israel are being advised to maintain regular contact with the consular department for critical updates and support.
The Mahama administration reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians abroad, stressing that no effort would be spared in keeping citizens out of harm’s way during this period of uncertainty.
The government has also renewed its call for both Israel and Iran to de-escalate tensions and prioritise diplomatic engagement as the path to peace.
“The safety of our citizens is non-negotiable,” a government Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. “We urge all parties involved in the conflict to cease hostilities and return to dialogue in the interest of regional and global peace.”
