Lands Ministry to launch Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme in Obuasi

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is set to officially launch the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Obuasi Black Park in the Ashanti Region.
The event, scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., is part of the government’s broader strategy to formalise small-scale mining, promote responsible environmental practices, and empower mining communities through technical skills training and cooperative development.
rCOMSDEP aims to provide structured support to artisanal and small-scale miners by promoting sustainable mining practices, enhancing safety standards, and offering vocational training to boost livelihoods in mining areas.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in reducing illegal mining, commonly known as "galamsey," while creating opportunities for youth and local communities in the mining value chain.
Government officials, traditional leaders, mining associations, and development partners are expected to attend the launch
