The Kusaug Youth Association (KYA) in the Ashanti Region has accused the government and the Ghana Police Service of negligence following the murder of Naa Abdul Malik Azimbe, Chief of the Kussasi community in Asawase and Divisional Chief of Kaadi.

Speaking at a press conference held in Asawase, the Association's spokesperson, Mr. John Ndaugo, revealed that Chief Azimbe had received multiple death threats allegedly linked to the Mamprusi faction in the protracted Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

The threats, he said, were formally reported to the police, but no action was taken.

Tragically, Chief Azimbe was gunned down by unknown assailants on a motorcycle at his residence on July 22, 2025.

“This was not a random act of violence,” Mr. Ndaugo stated.

“It is part of a calculated pattern of intimidation and attacks orchestrated by the Mamprusi faction, which continues to defy peace efforts being mediated by the Asantehene.”

The KYA has accused the government of complicity through its inaction and called for immediate intervention to uphold law and order.

“We demand a thorough investigation into the murder of Chief Azimbe, the swift arrest of those behind this heinous act, and accountability for similar attacks that have gone unpunished,” Mr. Ndaugo stressed.

He further warned that the patience of the Kusaug youth is wearing thin, and they will not continue to tolerate what they describe as “state-backed lawlessness.”

The group reiterated its commitment to peace but cautioned that justice must prevail to avoid further deterioration of the already fragile security situation in communities affected by the Kusasi-Mamprusi conflict.
