Ghana shines at Africa Tourism Awards as “December in Ghana” wins best promotion initiative
Ghana has once again earned international recognition in the tourism arena, with the popular “December in Ghana” initiative winning Best Tourism Promotion Initiative at the Africa Tourism Awards 2025 (Balearica Awards) held in London.
The honour was celebrated by the Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Agreey, who joined the CEO, Mrs Maame Efua Houadjeto, at the ceremony to receive the award on behalf of the country.
The accolade reinforces Ghana’s growing reputation as the heartbeat of African travel, culture, and entertainment.
Speaking after the event, the delegation expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the recognition affirms the global impact of Ghana’s December festive calendar, which continues to attract thousands of visitors annually for music festivals, cultural showcases, and heritage experiences.
They also reiterated their commitment to working collaboratively to advance President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of transforming and resetting the country's tourism landscape for greater growth, innovation, and international appeal.
The celebration marks another milestone for the sector, highlighting Ghana’s rising influence within Africa’s tourism industry.
