The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has rendered an unqualified apology to the Minister for Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following a recent media attack on his person.

The apology was delivered during a meeting aimed at strengthening the relationship between nurses and the government.

The Minister graciously accepted the apology and encouraged the Association to prioritise dialogue and constructive engagement with government authorities.

He reaffirmed his commitment to building a strong partnership with healthcare professionals to enhance healthcare delivery across the country.

Highlighting the achievements of the current administration, Mr Akandoh noted the integration of 13,500 nurses into the government payroll, the establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF), and the retooling of various government health facilities.

He also mentioned the payment of arrears on nursing training allowances and National Health Insurance claims, as well as the government’s absorption of half of the admission fees for nursing training institutions.

The Minister pledged to ensure the successful implementation of the collective bargaining agreement to improve conditions of service for nurses and to support the ongoing transformation of the health sector in pursuit of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He called on all stakeholders and the public to remain calm, assuring them of the government’s commitment to resolving challenges within the health sector.

During the meeting, the GRNMA leadership raised several pressing concerns affecting healthcare professionals and called for urgent attention to enhance service delivery.

The delegation included former President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, immediate past President Dr. Krobea Asante, current President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a renewed commitment to collaboration and the advancement of healthcare in Ghana.
