A local miner and entrepreneur, Richard Asare, has reaffirmed his commitment to environmentally responsible mining practices in the Kwabeng community, located in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.

Speaking to residents and stakeholders, Mr. Asare assured the community that he would never undertake any mining activity that would endanger the area's water bodies, which serve as a crucial lifeline for the people of Kwabeng.

He emphasised the importance of environmental preservation, particularly the protection of the community’s sole source of water.

“Our water bodies are vital, and I am committed to ensuring they are never compromised by my operations,” he stated.

Mr. Asare distinguished his methods from the harmful practices of some miners, especially the use of Chanfan machines, which are known to cause severe water pollution.

He stressed that his operations involve land reclamation and eco-friendly techniques aimed at minimising environmental impact.

Highlighting the positive impact of mining when done responsibly, Mr. Asare pointed to the sector’s ability to generate employment, improve livelihoods, and transform underdeveloped communities.

He called on policymakers and critics to visit mining communities firsthand before passing judgment on the industry.

“Mining, when regulated and practised responsibly, can be a powerful tool for development.

The solution is not to ban it, but to regulate it better,” he noted.

Mr. Asare urged the government to focus on practical, enforceable regulations that promote responsible mining, rather than imposing blanket bans.

He also called for increased job creation for young people, emphasising the need to provide alternatives before any restrictive measures are considered.
