The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Eduzi Tamakloe, has taken to social media to express concern over the potential consequences of generosity in the wake of a controversy involving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.

In a Facebook post reacting to the incident, Mr. Tamakloe offered a solemn prayer, asking God to protect benefactors whose good intentions may be misinterpreted.

“May the good Lord save us from all seen and unseen evil. God protect our benefactors.

May our generosity not become a problem for us.

Lessons learnt. God help us,” the NPA boss wrote, in what many interpret as a response to the backlash surrounding Mr. Gyamfi’s recent actions.

The controversy erupted after it emerged that Sammy Gyamfi, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod, had extended a gesture of support to priestess Patricia Asiedua, also known as  Agraada, which was widely criticised within and outside his political party on social media.

The details of the gesture remain unclear, but it drew sharp reactions on social media, especially from some NDC supporters who questioned the appropriateness and implications of the act.

In response to the public backlash, Mr. Gyamfi issued a formal statement of apology, expressing regret and offering clarity on the matter.

“Folks, I have taken notice of the wave of criticisms against my person in the last 24 hours,” he stated

“To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need.

I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space.

That is unfortunate and regrettable.”

The NDC National Communications Officer acknowledged the hurt felt by some party members and extended a heartfelt apology.

“I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by the same.

To all such comrades, I am sincerely sorry for this unfortunate act of indiscretion.

I respect and appreciate your views.”

Despite the controversy, Mr. Gyamfi reiterated his commitment to public service and the ideals of his office.

“Let me state, however, that my view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems, and help others has not changed.

I remain focused on the task entrusted to me by His Excellency, the President, for the development of our country.”

The incident has sparked conversations around transparency, discretion, and the complexities of generosity in public life, with many calling for reflection on the broader lessons from the episode.
