DCE urges PWDs to stop street begging as 56 beneficiaries receive support in Afram Plains South
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu Afram Plains South in the Eastern Region, Moses Tangmee, has called on Persons living With Disabilities (PWDs) in the district to desist from begging on the streets, stressing that the government is committed to empowering them with meaningful livelihood support.
He made the appeal during a ceremony in Afram Plains South, where 56 PWDs received various items and financial assistance under the government’s support programme.
The beneficiaries were presented with items such as refrigerators, cassava grinding machines, electric sewing machines, as well as cash packages to help them start or expand their businesses.
Mr. Tangmee noted that the government’s interventions are designed to promote self-reliance and economic independence among PWDs.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the assistance to create sustainable income sources and contribute to the development of their communities, rather than resorting to street begging.
Some beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation to the government, describing the support as life-changing.
They pledged to put the resources to productive use and encouraged other PWDs to pursue income-generating ventures instead of begging.
