'If you had a good marriage, you’d understand my wife takes care of me': Sam George shades critics

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has responded to backlash over his recent viral remark that “my wife takes care of me,” asserting that critics simply do not understand what a healthy and supportive marriage entails.
In an interview with Accra News’ Rebecca Lartey, the outspoken legislator stood firmly by his statement, which had sparked wide-ranging debate across social media platforms.
“For those who don’t understand it, it’s because they don’t have good marriages,” George stated.
“If you have a good marriage, you’ll understand when a man says his wife takes care of him.”
While many applauded the MP for publicly appreciating his wife’s role in his life, others accused hi
m of promoting outdated gender stereotypes.
But George clarified that his statement was not about dependence or submission, but about mutual love, care, and respect within a partnership.
“The words were taken out of context,” he explained. “What I said reflects emotional partnership and mutual support.
It’s what real marriage should be about.”
Known for his candid views and fearless engagement on political and social issues, George said he remains unapologetic about celebrating his wife’s impact on his life.
“I’m not ashamed to say it again and again—my wife takes care of me.
And that’s what partnership looks like,” he reiterated.
The comment has reignited discussions around gender roles, expressions of affection in public life, and evolving views on marriage dynamics in Ghana.
Despite the ongoing online chatter, Sam George says he is proud of his marriage and the role his wife plays in it—and will continue to say so without hesitation.
