Oti Regional Minister confirms economic shutdown in Nkwanta amid renewed tribal clashes

The Oti Regional Minister, John Kodwo Gyanpong, has confirmed that economic activities in the Nkwanta enclave have come to a standstill following a fresh outbreak of tribal violence in the area.
The renewed conflict has raised serious security concerns, prompting fears among residents and causing businesses, schools, and transport services to shut down indefinitely.
Speaking to the press, Minister Gyampo described the situation as deeply worrying, noting that the clashes have severely disrupted daily life and economic productivity in the municipality.
"The escalating tension has forced many traders and transport operators to flee or close down.
Markets are empty, and the usual buzz of economic activity has disappeared," he said.
Security forces have been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
However, residents remain on edge as local leaders and authorities scramble to mediate between the feuding factions.
The Minister urged all parties involved in the conflict to embrace peace and dialogue, emphasising that the government remains committed to ensuring long-term stability and development in the region.
