NLA to roll out new sticker system to regulate lottery industry

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mohammed Abdul-Salam, has unveiled plans to tighten regulation of Ghana’s lottery industry as part of broader reforms to boost revenue generation and ensure efficiency.
A key feature of the reforms is the introduction of a sticker system to identify licensed lottery ticket sellers.
Beginning September 1, all authorised operators will be required to sign on to the system, which will help distinguish legitimate sellers from unlicensed operators.
According to Mr. Abdul-Salam, the crackdown on unlicensed sellers is critical to sanitising the industry and ensuring that revenue generated flows into the right government accounts.
“The sticker system will provide transparency and accountability in the lottery space.
This reform will not only protect the integrity of the industry but also ensure that revenues are properly accounted for and used for national development,” he said.
The NLA has called for the cooperation of stakeholders, including lottery writers and private collaborators, to ensure the success of the reforms.
The authority believes that with strong collaboration, it can effectively regulate the sector and expand revenue streams.
The Authority is confident that these measures will significantly increase revenue generation, while positioning the NLA as a key contributor to Ghana’s economic growth.
