Gov't pays GH¢9.7 billion coupon under Debt Exchange Programme

The Ministry of Finance has announced the successful payment of GH¢9.7 billion in coupon payments under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).
The payment, made on Monday, August 19, 2025, brings total disbursements under the programme this year to GH¢19.4 billion.
According to the Ministry, the move underscores the government’s commitment to honouring the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding governing the debt exchange programme, while bolstering investor confidence and fiscal credibility.
In line with the 2025 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review and the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), the government has also created two dedicated sinking fund accounts — one in cedis and another in US dollars.
These accounts are designed to serve as liquidity buffers, ensuring the timely redemption of upcoming debt obligations, particularly bonds maturing in 2026, 2027, and 2028.
The Ministry reiterated that all future debt obligations, including subsequent DDEP coupon payments, will be met fully and on time.
“The government assures investors and the public of its unwavering commitment to fiscal discipline and debt sustainability,” the statement said.
