GA/R: Trotro mates in Ashaiman undergo three-day empowerment training to improve conduct and passenger relations
Trotro mates operating at the Ashaiman Main Station are participating in a three-day empowerment programme designed to enhance their behaviour, communication skills, and relationship with passengers.
The initiative, organised by the Educational League in partnership with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), focuses on effective communication, personal hygiene, and health awareness — key areas aimed at improving professionalism and service delivery in the public transport sector.
According to the organisers, the training seeks to instil discipline, promote respect for passengers, and empower the mates with practical life skills that will transform their daily interactions and overall outlook.
Facilitating a communication session, Madam Landrecia Odoom, a member of the Educational League, encouraged participants to treat commuters with courtesy, patience, and respect, emphasising that good interpersonal relations can improve their image and job satisfaction.
Mr. Francis Atiapa, Secretary to the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), noted that transport union leaders hold quarterly meetings to address passenger concerns.
He urged drivers and their mates to maintain clean vehicles and good hygiene, saying it would help restore public confidence and dignity in their work.
Speaking on behalf of the Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Richard Kwadwo Ofosu, Assistant Director of the Municipal Assembly, commended the organisers for the initiative and encouraged the drivers and mates to form a union to better engage with local authorities on their welfare and operational challenges.
He further advised participants to uphold discipline, cleanliness, and professionalism, stressing that such values are essential to building a respectable and efficient transport system in the municipality.
