Bank of Ghana hosts over 250 pupils for currency education and fun day at Bank Square
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) on Friday hosted more than 250 school pupils from five basic schools in Accra for an engaging currency education session and fun-filled activities at the Bank Square, highlighting the history, evolution, and significance of the Ghanaian Cedi.
The participating schools included Independence Avenue Basic School (1 & 2), St. George’s Anglican Basic School, Bishop Mixed Basic School, Accra Sempe School, and St. Barnabas Basic School.
The interactive event formed part of the Bank’s commitment to promoting financial literacy and national pride among young learners.
Pupils were taken through the story of the Cedi, from its origins to its modern-day design and security features, through educational talks, displays, and games.
Addressing the students, Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama encouraged them to take their studies seriously and aspire to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
“You are the future of our nation. The choices you make today will shape the Ghana of tomorrow,” he said, urging the pupils to embrace learning, integrity, and patriotism.
Dr. Asiama was joined by his deputies, Dr. Zakari Mumuni and Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, who also shared words of inspiration with the young participants, reinforcing the importance of education and responsibility in building a stable economy.
The day concluded with lively music, lunch, and jubilant smiles — a fitting celebration of learning, legacy, and national pride.
The event reflects the Bank of Ghana’s broader mission to engage and educate the next generation about financial systems, responsible money management, and the value of the nation’s currency
