PURC announces reduction in electricity and water tariffs effective April 1
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission has announced a reduction in electricity and water tariffs for the second quarter of 2026, effective April 1, 2026.
According to the commission, electricity charges will fall by 4.81 percent, while water tariffs will decrease by 3.06 percent.
The adjustments are part of PURC’s mandate to conduct quarterly reviews of utility tariffs, reflecting changes in key factors that affect the operations of Utility Service Providers (USPs). These factors include:
- movements in the Ghana Cedi–US dollar exchange rate
- domestic inflation
- the electricity generation mix
- and fuel costs, particularly natural gas used in thermal power plants
In a move to support the green energy transition, the commission has also introduced, for the first time, a commercial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging tariff, aimed at promoting sustainable transport solutions in Ghana.
The latest tariff adjustments are intended to ensure that utility pricing remains aligned with market realities while supporting affordability and the adoption of clean energy technologies.
