The Paediatric Oncology Unit of Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) is celebrating a major milestone in the recovery of a four-year-old girl diagnosed with Wilms’ Tumour, a childhood kidney cancer.

The child, whose name has been withheld, recently underwent a successful seven-hour surgery performed by a multidisciplinary surgical team at the facility.

The procedure was fully funded by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund under the MahamaCares initiative.

Following the surgery, she is currently receiving post-operative chemotherapy and is said to be recovering steadily, bringing renewed hope and relief to her family and caregivers.

Chief Executive Officer of Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Hintermann K. K. Mbroh, who played a key role in facilitating her access to specialised care, last week paid a visit to the young patient and her mother, Ms. Esther, at the ward.

He was accompanied by the hospital’s Director of Administration, Mr. George Tetteh.

During the visit, Dr. Mbroh interacted warmly with the child and her mother, assuring them of the hospital’s continued commitment to ensuring her full recovery.

The child’s mother, visibly emotional, recounted the family’s journey from despair to hope.

She commended the medical team for their dedication and expressed gratitude to the Government for the timely financial intervention that made the life-saving surgery possible.

Management of Ho Teaching Hospital extended its appreciation to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) for covering the full cost of the surgery and supporting the ongoing chemotherapy treatment.

According to the hospital, the partnership highlights the importance of collaborative healthcare financing in ensuring that children are not denied access to critical treatment due to financial constraints.

As the young patient continues her recovery, her story stands as a testament to the impact of skilled medical care, compassionate support, and strategic partnerships in transforming lives.
