KMA issues reminder on demolition of unauthorised structures around Baba Yara Stadium
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a reminder to owners of unauthorised structures around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to voluntarily remove them ahead of the scheduled demolition.
The assembly reaffirmed its commitment to clearing all undesirable structures to restore order and improve the aesthetic value of the stadium by Monday, 7 April 2026.
The reminder follows an earlier press statement dated 5 February 2026, which extended the demolition deadline after pleas from local traditional leaders, including Nana Adu Mensah Asare, Amakomhene, Nana Baffour Kofi Atobra, Dadiesoabahene, and Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, during the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) meeting on 4 February 2026.
Owners of affected structures have been advised to act before 6 April 2026, as the decision to sanitize the stadium precinct is final and non-negotiable.
The KMA also cautioned the public against individuals reportedly demanding GHS1,500 from affected persons in the name of the mayor.
The assembly clarified that no such payments have been received or will be entertained.
Authorities are counting on the cooperation of residents to ensure a peaceful and smooth demolition exercise.
