On Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 25 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), marking a major step toward strengthening Ghana’s National Statistical System (NSS).

The agreements aim to formalise partnerships that improve the quality, timeliness, and relevance of official statistics, ensuring data-driven governance across the country. Key objectives include:

- Enhanced Coordination – Streamlining the collection and sharing of administrative data across government institutions.

- Evidence-Based Governance – Supporting data-driven decision-making to improve public sector transparency.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts (MOTCCA) was among the signatories, with Yussif Issaka Jajah, Deputy Minister and MP for Ayawaso North, signing on behalf of Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP).

Delivering the keynote address, Mr Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, emphasised that coordinated data systems form the foundation of a transparent and efficient public sector, describing the MoUs as vital for strengthening governance in Ghana.

He added that the agreements would enable the GSS to translate its legal mandate into practical collaboration across government institutions.

The signing ceremony featured high-level representation from government and the international community, including Sam Dzata George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation; Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Deputy Minister for Finance; Mr Zia Choudhury, UN Resident Coordinator; Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of the Ghana Civil Service; and members of the GSS Governing Board, including Prof Mariama Awumbila and Dr Butakor.

Directors from the GSS and other MDAs also attended.
