Ablakwa highlights governance as key to combating extremism at Chatham House
Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described his recent visit to Chatham House as an “intellectually stimulating evening,” emphasising that West African governments can tackle violent extremism through more than just military action.
In a Facebook post, Ablakwa wrote that defeating extremism requires demonstrable good governance, including aggressive measures against corruption, youth unemployment, underdevelopment, ungoverned spaces, social exclusion, and weak security structures.
“We must not fail the bright talents in the world’s youngest continent,” he added, expressing gratitude to participants for their contributions and insights during the discussion.
The statement reflects Ablakwa’s ongoing advocacy for holistic approaches to regional security, highlighting governance, development, and inclusive policies as key tools alongside traditional security measures.
