‘$1.7bn GoldBod loss claim is a barefaced lie’ – Sammy Gyamfi
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has strongly rejected allegations that the state-owned gold-buying company recorded losses of $1.7 billion in 2025, describing the claim as false.
Mr Gyamfi said GoldBod’s audited accounts tell a different story and urged the public to rely on the institution’s official financial statements when assessing its performance.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, he accused Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other opposition figures of repeatedly advancing what he described as an inaccurate account of GoldBod’s financial position.
According to Mr Gyamfi, GoldBod has consistently disputed the alleged loss and has provided figures from its audited financial statements to counter the claim.
He said the 2025 audited accounts show that GoldBod recorded an operational surplus of about GH¢907 million, while its total surplus stood at approximately GH¢5.4 billion.
Mr Gyamfi therefore maintained that the reported $1.7 billion loss does not represent GoldBod’s financial outcome for the year.
He challenged critics of the institution to base their assessment on the accounts audited and published by the Auditor-General rather than what he characterised as politically driven assertions.
The GoldBod CEO said the figures contained in the official audit report provide a clear picture of the institution’s financial performance and contradict claims that it operated at a loss in 2025.
