Sunyani West MP urges caution in political rhetoric to prevent violence

The Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency in the Bono Region, Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, has called on her fellow legislators to exercise caution in their public statements, particularly during election periods, to avoid inciting violence among their supporters.
Her remarks follow a statement by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, condemning the recent violent incidents during the Ablekuma North re-run of the election.
Madam Amankwah Yeboah emphasised the critical responsibility political leaders bear in fostering peace and stability.
She warned that inflammatory comments can trigger violent actions, often leading to tragic consequences such as arrests, injuries, or even loss of life—particularly for innocent bystanders.
"Leadership must be exercised with a sense of responsibility," she stated. "We must be mindful of how our words can influence others, especially in a country like Ghana that prides itself on peace and democratic governance."
She further cautioned against the use of divisive or provocative language when addressing sensitive issues such as elections or matters affecting women, urging all MPs to promote respectful dialogue and national unity.
Madam Amankwah Yeboah concluded by encouraging her colleagues to lead by example and ensure their conduct reflects Ghana’s longstanding commitment to peace and democracy
