The National Concerned Small Scale Miners Association, Ghana (NCSSMAG) has moved to clarify its position following the circulation of voice notes on social media regarding the operations of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) taskforce on small-scale mining.

In a press statement signed by its President, Michael Kwadwo Peprah, the Association dismissed claims that it supports illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.

“The Association has consistently opposed galamsey and will continue to support all lawful measures aimed at eradicating the menace,” the statement emphasised.

NCSSMAG further declared its full support for the IGP and allied security task forces, describing their interventions as “critical to ensuring order, fairness, and sustainability” in the small-scale mining sector.

Addressing concerns raised in the circulating voice notes, the Association explained that the message was directed at licensed small-scale miners whose equipment had been seized during recent operations.

It encouraged affected miners with valid concessions to visit the Association’s office with their documentation for assistance in retrieving their equipment.

The statement also highlighted the Association’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

It commended journalists and environmental advocates such as Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor for exposing the destruction of water bodies by illegal mining activities.

To reinforce its stance, NCSSMAG announced plans to establish a Task Force on Environmental Restoration.

The team will collaborate with communities to rehabilitate rivers and water bodies damaged by mining.

Reiterating its mission, the Association said it remains committed to protecting the environment, supporting legitimate miners, and working with government institutions to ensure responsible mining practices in Ghana.
