Singapore’s President hails Mahama’s leadership as he strengthens ties with Ghana

Singapore’s President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, has commended Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, for his leadership in tackling economic challenges and advancing job creation.
“Ghana must succeed for West Africa and for Africa as a whole to succeed,” President Tharman remarked during bilateral talks in Singapore, praising Mahama’s management of the country’s debt situation while noting that employment remains a priority his administration is working to resolve.
He further highlighted Mahama’s address at the Africa Singapore Business Forum as a reflection of the growing strength of bilateral ties and the shared vision of building sustainable foundations for long-term prosperity.
A significant milestone in climate cooperation was also noted, with Singapore becoming the first Asian nation to sign a carbon credits implementation agreement with Ghana, the first African country to enter such a pact with Singapore.
Looking ahead, President Tharman outlined key areas for collaboration, including agribusiness and value-added processing of commodities such as cocoa and cashew, as well as fintech, cross-border payment systems, and the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.
“We are ready and glad to pursue these opportunities together,” he affirmed, emphasising Singapore’s readiness to mobilise investment, technology, and expertise in support of Ghana’s inclusive growth.
President Mahama is currently on a three-day State Visit to Singapore and is scheduled to deliver an address at a Presidential Business Forum on the final day of his visit.
