OSP's indecisive approach underming Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts-Abraham Koomson
The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he describes as its slow and ineffective handling of corruption investigations involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking on Ahotor FM on Saturday, November 8, Mr. Koomson accused Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng of failing to act decisively in high-profile corruption cases, describing his approach as “playing with the minds of Ghanaians.”
“I am not happy because the OSP has been too slow in its investigations.
We have seen delays with the SML matter, the National Cathedral case, and other investigations that have been hanging for years. Kissi Agyebeng is just playing with the minds of Ghanaians,” he said.
The labour leader expressed frustration at what he termed the OSP’s “lackadaisical attitude” towards major corruption scandals and called for urgent action to restore public trust in the institution.
Mr. Koomson further argued that Ken Ofori-Atta should be prosecuted in absentia if he is unwilling to face the law, stressing that political interference cannot be used as an excuse for inaction.
“Interference from political parties has always been a challenge, but that cannot justify the OSP’s silence and delay on such a serious case,” he added.
He also questioned Mr. Agyebeng’s leadership and management of the OSP, claiming that his indecisive approach undermines Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts and erodes public confidence in the justice system.
Mr. Koomson called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider a reshuffle of the Special Prosecutor’s office, insisting that only bold and proactive leadership can ensure accountability and bring those who have mismanaged or stolen public funds to justice.
