Ghana tightens passport security protocols amid increased diplomatic privileges

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, has announced new security measures for Ghanaian passport acquisition.
This decision comes in response to the recent enhancement of diplomatic privileges for Ghanaian passport holders, including 10 visa waivers and the reversal of US visa restrictions.
In a high-level meeting held on October 3 was with passport administration officials, regional directors, private partners, consultants, and courier companies, Minister Okudzeto-Ablakwa emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring only eligible Ghanaians receive passports.
The initiative aims to prevent unauthorised individuals from obtaining these increasingly valuable documents.
"We are determined to ensure that only eligible Ghanaians are issued our high-value passports," stated the Minister.
He added, "We shall not allow such nefarious schemes to succeed," referring to potential attempts by ineligible individuals to acquire Ghanaian passports.
The meeting resulted in crucial resolutions to enhance the passport issuance process, although specific details of the new security protocols were not disclosed.
This move is expected to strengthen the integrity of Ghana's passport system and protect the newly acquired diplomatic privileges for its citizens.
