Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga is calling for a more holistic and inclusive approach to governance, especially in the formulation and implementation of public policies that directly affect vulnerable populations.

In a recent statement on the floor of Parliament, Mr Ayariga emphasised that policymakers must strike a balance between enforcing laws and protecting the livelihoods of ordinary citizens, particularly those who rely on informal economies or occupy public spaces.

He noted that sustainable governance must take into account the social and economic realities of affected groups.

“Governance is not just about passing laws or enforcing regulations; it’s about understanding how policies impact real lives,” he said.

Mr Ayariga advocated for the provision of alternative livelihoods before displacing people from spaces they depend on for survival.

He stressed that sectors such as health, sanitation, tourism, and employment are interconnected, and policies in one area must consider implications in the others.

He also underscored the importance of collaborating with the private sector to create market spaces and new employment opportunities, ensuring that no group is left behind in national development efforts.

Mr Ayariga’s governance philosophy emphasises intellectual rigour, accountability, and thoughtful planning in addressing national challenges.

His leadership, especially in securing consensus for key government appointments, reflects a diplomatic and pragmatic approach to policymaking — one that prioritises equity, transparency, and long-term impact.
