Arise Ghana demands extradition of Ken Ofori-Atta
Members of the pressure group, Arise Ghana, have begun a two-week picket at the United States Embassy in Accra, demanding the extradition of former Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori- Atta who is wanted in Ghana for alleged corruption.
Speaking to the media, a leading member of Arise Ghana, Dramani Selom Dzramado, emphasised that the group is not motivated by politics, but rather a desire to hold duty-bearers accountable.
"Our allegiance is to the supreme interest of Ghana, not a political party," he said.
Mr Dzramado stated that the group will continue to protest until Mr. Ken Ofori- Atta is brought back to Ghana to face charges. He assured the former Minister that he would receive a fair trial, citing Article 19 of the Ghanaian Constitution, which guarantees fair trial rights.
The group has expressed concern that Mr. Ken Ofori- Atta may be apprehensive about returning to Ghana due to the treatment of other high-profile individuals.
However, Dzramado emphasised that Ghana is a country governed by the rule of law and that Mr. Ken Ofori- Atta's rights will be protected.
Arise Ghana has pledged to support Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta if his rights are infringed upon, and has expressed confidence in the current government's commitment to justice and fairness.
