UK Defence delegation meets Ghana’s Deputy Defence Minister to deepen strategic cooperation

Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, last week welcomed a high-powered delegation from the United Kingdom at the Ministry of Defence Square, marking a renewed chapter in UK–Ghana security cooperation.
The delegation was led by Ben Merrick, UK Director of Defence and Security at the Ministry of Defence, alongside Air Vice Marshal Mark Flewin, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Military Strategy).
They were accompanied by the UK Defence Attaché to Ghana and senior representatives of the UK High Commission.
The visit served as a formal introduction to their Ghanaian counterparts, while also setting the stage for enhanced collaboration between the two nations.
Discussions centred on advancing bilateral defence ties and strengthening regional security partnerships across West Africa.
Mr. Genfi highlighted Ghana’s readiness to work closely with the UK in addressing shared security challenges, emphasising the importance of collective action to safeguard peace and stability.
The UK officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ghana and the sub-region in areas of defence strategy, counterterrorism, and maritime security.
Both sides expressed optimism that the engagement will foster stronger defence relations, contributing to long-term peace, security, and strategic cooperation in West Africa.
