President John Dramani Mahama has issued a firm directive to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to declare their assets by 15th July 2025, in line with provisions of the 1992 Constitution.

The President gave the order during an orientation and training programme for MMDCEs held in Accra on Wednesday, June 18. He underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in public service, noting that asset declaration is a constitutional obligation for public officeholders.

“I wish to remind you that you are among the officeholders required to declare your assets, and so I expect that by July 15, all of you will have complied,” President Mahama stated.

According to Article 286 of the Constitution, designated public officers must declare their assets before assuming office and upon exiting.

The directive is part of President Mahama’s broader anti-corruption drive and efforts to restore public confidence in governance.

Since returning to office in January 2025, the President has consistently championed asset declaration as a key mechanism for promoting integrity in public life.

He noted that all his appointees have already complied with the requirement and cautioned that anyone who fails to meet the deadline will be sanctioned.

“Some appointees have already faced consequences for non-compliance,” he revealed, signalling his commitment to enforcing accountability measures across all levels of government.
