NADMO, National Security recommend shutdown of Nsokot Quarry over safety concerns

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in collaboration with National Security operatives, has recommended the immediate shutdown of the Nsokot Quarry Company in the Loye community of the Awutu Senya West District, citing serious safety risks to residents.
The recommendation follows a recent inspection visit by the agencies, which revealed that the company’s operations — particularly its unannounced blasting activities — pose a grave danger to the local population.
According to Mr. George Enoch Duodu, Deputy Director of Awutu Senya West NADMO, a recent blast from the quarry nearly caused a major disaster, heightening fears among residents.
He disclosed that despite several official invitations for dialogue, the company had refused to cooperate with NADMO.
“We’ve tried to reason with them, but they’ve shown no interest in addressing our concerns,” Mr. Duodu stated.
“We urge the Minerals Commission to revoke their license and shut down the company to protect the lives of our people.”
He stressed that the safety and well-being of residents must take precedence over corporate activity, calling on all relevant authorities to intervene urgently.
Community members who spoke to reporters expressed fear and anxiety over the company’s operations, noting that the frequent explosions have caused cracks in buildings, vibrations, and sleepless nights.
The residents are hopeful that NADMO’s recommendation will lead to a permanent resolution of the issue and restore peace and safety in the Loye community.
