Mahama moves to restore calm in Sawla-Bole, engages Yagbonwura

President John Dramani Mahama has taken swift steps to restore calm in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region following renewed tensions between the Gonja and Brifor communities.
The President, who returned from a state visit to Singapore, was briefed by the National Security Coordinator and the Minister for the Interior on the situation.
While abroad, President Mahama held a telephone conversation with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, to discuss measures for ending the conflict and restoring peace.
As part of the government’s peace-building efforts, the President has dispatched a high-level delegation led by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to engage the Yagbonwura and other key stakeholders in the affected area.
Security in Sawla-Bole has also been reinforced with the deployment of additional police and military personnel to maintain order.
This was contained in a statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President
President Mahama has urged all parties to support the initiatives underway, emphasising that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect for the rule of law.
He further directed the government delegation to collaborate with the regional security council, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to promote reconciliation and peacefully resolve outstanding disputes.
The President reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability across the country, particularly in conflict-prone areas.
