GA/R: MCE of Nima launches anti-drug campaign in ghettos

The Municipal Chief Executive of Nima Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, Alhaji Abdul-Fatahu Alhassan, has launched a bold anti-drug campaign dubbed “Say No to Drugs – Accra Ghetto Tour, Ride Your Bike,” aimed at tackling the growing issue of drug abuse among youth across Ghana.
The campaign, which began with a motorbike rally through various communities, brought together over 100 riders from the Bikers Association of Ghana, in partnership with the Ghana Police Service.
The rally targeted inner-city neighbourhoods and ghettos, sensitising young people to the dangers of drug use and urging them to choose healthier, more productive lifestyles.
Speaking to the media during the event, Mr Abdul-Fatahu stressed the importance of collective action in addressing drug abuse.
He highlighted the need for cooperation between law enforcement, community leaders, and the youth to effectively tackle the menace.
“We cannot fight this battle alone — it takes the police, the community, and especially the youth to drive this change,” he said.
He revealed that plans are underway to expand the campaign nationwide, with support from government officials, institutions, and NGOs.
Also present at the rally was the Deputy Commander of the Nima District Police, ASP Asong Ayrakwa, who expressed strong support for the initiative.
“Our future lies in the hands of the youth. When we see drugs tearing them apart, it becomes our duty to come together and fight back,” he remarked
