Finance Minister orders strict enforcement of 2024 audit report recommendations
Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has directed Chief Directors and key audit heads across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to urgently implement the recommendations contained in the 2024 Audit Report, stressing that Ghana can no longer tolerate financial indiscipline and waste.
Speaking at a high-level meeting with senior government officials, Dr. Ato Forson warned that continued infractions and mismanagement of public funds send the wrong message about the nation’s governance credibility and risk undermining the progress made in restoring economic stability.
He described the waste of scarce national resources as “completely avoidable,” insisting that the country “deserves better.”
“We cannot continue to lose scarce national resources through infractions that are completely avoidable.
Ghana truly deserves better,” he said.
The Finance Minister urged audit heads to ensure that breaches are reduced to the barest minimum, adding that the establishment of specialised financial courts will ensure swift prosecution of violations under Ghana’s public financial laws.
“This is a new chapter. Accountability will no longer be optional,” he declared.
Dr. Ato Forson emphasised that enforcing discipline in public financial management is not only a legal requirement but a national duty owed to every Ghanaian.
