Defence Deputy Minister meets families of El-Wak stampede victims, announces support and compensation
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr Ernest Brogya Genfi, has met with the families of victims of the recent El-Wak Stadium stampede to discuss funeral arrangements and outline government support for those affected.
The meeting, held at the Defence Square, brought together relatives of the deceased, government officials, and representatives from relevant agencies.
Mr Brogya Genfi announced a comprehensive support package, including assistance toward funeral expenses and compensation for each bereaved family.
He assured the families that the government would stand firmly with them throughout this difficult period, providing both emotional and practical support.
The Deputy Minister further advised that siblings of the deceased should be given first priority in the allocation of replacement opportunities.
Where no qualified candidate exists within the immediate family, a suitable nominee from the extended family may be considered.
He also disclosed that injured victims will rejoin their colleagues on the training grounds once they fully recover, ensuring continuity in their recruitment process.
Additionally, the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, is putting in place additional measures to provide other forms of support for the affected families.
Mr. Brogya Genfi extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all families impacted by the tragedy.
