CNC workers threaten strike over unpaid institutional-specific allowance

Members of the Centres for National Culture (CNC), under the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU), have issued a strong warning of a possible strike over the government’s continued failure to pay their Institutional-Specific Allowance.
The announcement was made during the CNC’s 4th quadrennial conference held in Kumasi, where the Divisional Chairman, Isaac Mensah, voiced deep frustration over the long-standing issue.
He revealed that repeated appeals and official communications to the appropriate authorities have yielded no positive response.
Mensah noted that, unlike their counterparts in other public institutions who have been receiving the allowance since the rollout of the Single Spine Salary Structure, CNC staff have been unfairly excluded.
“We have waited long enough. Our work is no less important, and we are justified in demanding what is rightfully ours,” he stated.
“We are escalating the matter through our mother union, the PSWU, and if necessary, we will not hesitate to resort to industrial action.”
Supporting the position, Deputy General Secretary of PSWU, John Kudenu Sampah, expressed serious concern over the nonpayment of the allowance to CNC staff and other affected unions under the PSWU.
He called on the government to address the issue promptly to avoid further disruption in the public service sector.
