St. Thomas Aquinas SHS students walk home barefoot after footwear seizure
Some students of St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School in Accra were seen walking home barefooted after their footwear were reportedly confiscated by school authorities.
Speaking to one of the students, he said their sandals were seized by the headmaster because they were not in the prescribed colour.
According to the school authorities, only sandals in the colour brown were allowed.
However, some of the students said the school’s prospectus allowed them to wear either black or white shoes.
The incident has sparked discussion among parents and members of the public about whether disciplinary measures should include sending students home without footwear.
Recently, there have been ongoing debates about senior high schools' disciplinary measures related to students’ hairstyles, the language of instruction, and the type of footwear permitted.
