A new two-unit kindergarten (KG) classroom block, complete with an office and a store, is set to be constructed at the Kpeyiborkope R.C. Primary School following a successful sod-cutting ceremony led by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, and the Deputy CEO of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Kofi Kofituo.

The project is fully funded by Pencils of Promise (PoP).

The PoP Country Director, Freeman Gobah, expressed concern over young children learning under trees while older pupils enjoyed proper classrooms. He reiterated his stance that every educational project under his leadership must provide at least one dedicated classroom for KG learners.

He also explained PoP’s unique partnership model, in which the organisation funded 80 per cent of construction costs while the beneficiary community contributed the remaining 20 per cent through labour, sand, laterite, chippings, and other materials. He urged parents to support their children’s basic schooling needs, rather than depending solely on political leaders.

MP Agbana commended PoP for its transformational impact, noting that the Kpeyiborkope project marked the organisation’s 208th classroom block nationwide and its 13th in the Ketu North Municipality. He recalled engaging the country director during the Hogbetsotso festival, which prompted the swift approval of the project after feasibility studies were completed.

The MP stressed the importance of strong community participation, estimating that the community’s contribution in materials amounted to about GHS50,000. He presented a cheque to the assemblyman to cover this requirement but encouraged residents to support additional renovation works needed within the school.

In his remarks, the SMC Chairman Sampson Amegatse highlighted that the school sat on a 32.5-acre parcel of land - adequate space for future infrastructure expansion - including teachers’ bungalows, should they be captured in subsequent government budgets.

Construction is expected to begin immediately to enhance the learning environment for KG pupils and improve early childhood education in the community.
