Haruna Iddrisu backs NHIS school outreach programme and inter-regional quiz competition
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has given his backing to a nationwide sensitisation programme and quiz competition on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) after discussions with a delegation from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), led by Chief Executive Dr Victor Asare Bampoe.
The NHIA informed the Minister of plans to introduce a student-centred education campaign targeting Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country. The programme is intended to improve students’ understanding of the NHIS.
The initiative will be implemented in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other stakeholders as part of efforts to support Universal Health Coverage.
Mr Iddrisu approved the proposal and directed the GES to take charge of coordinating its rollout nationwide.
He indicated that involving students in structured learning and competitions would strengthen awareness of the Scheme, encourage positive health-seeking behaviour, and sustain participation in the NHIS.
The accompanying quiz competition will run from May to November 2026 and will be organised across the regions, with selected SHSs representing all 16 regions.
