Wife assaulted, disgraced by landlord husband flees, police says
Police say the woman who was flogged and disgraced by a man who is said to be his husband in a viral video is nowhere to be found.
Police assured, however, efforts were underway "to locate and ensure the safety" of the unnnamed woman, who they said fled the scene before their arrival to their residence at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality, Greater Accra Region.
Today, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the Ghana Police Service (GPS) announced the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had arrested the man captured in the viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman who was sitting on the ground, deprived of clothes and incessantly pleading for mercy.
Police identified the assailant as John Odartey Lamptey, whose arrest took place on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family residence.
Police confirmed social media reports that when John attacked the woman, a tenant recorded the video which would later go viral, bringing the situation to public attention. The unnamed tenant, according to police, thereafter became the target of abuse, too.
"Following his arrest, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video, were also arrested, and the tenant rescued to ensure her safety," a police statement noted.
The GPS underlined their committment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators faced the full rigour of the law.
