Suspect in custody

Police at Juaboso have arrested a key suspect believed to be part of a seven-member armed gang that attacked miners at Antobia in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025.

According to the complainant, Alex Owusu, the gang—made up of masked young men wielding pump-action and single-barrel guns—stormed their mining site around 2:00 a.m

The attackers assaulted the miners with cutlasses and robbed them of gold concentrate (black) and mobile phones.

Three of the robbers were said to be wearing smocks—one heavily decorated with talismans—while one wore a military camouflage shirt, items the victims indicated they could easily identify.

Following the report, police officers, with support from a private cyber-specialist, tracked one of the stolen mobile phones to a shrine located at Attakrom, a cottage community within the Juaboso enclave.

The shrine belongs to suspect Victor Biney, also known as “Abeiku”, who is already standing trial in multiple robbery and murder cases at the Bibiani Circuit Court.

Although the suspect was initially absent, a search conducted in the presence of community witnesses led to the discovery of several incriminating items, including:

A military camouflage shirt

A pair of handcuffs

Two cutlasses

A single-barrel gun

Forehead flashlights

17 AAA live cartridges

Five smocks

A plastic basin containing particles of gold concentrate

Mercury

The butt of a pump-action gun

Other related items

All the exhibits were transported to the police station.

On their way back, officers encountered and arrested Victor Biney alias Abeiku.

At the station, he reportedly identified and admitted ownership of the gun, cartridges, handcuffs, smocks, cutlasses, flashlight, military camouflage shirt, and other retrieved items.

The complainant and other victims later identified some of the seized items—three flashlights, mercury, gold concentrate particles, three smocks, and the military camouflage shirt—as those used by the attackers during the robbery.

Later the same day, 17 November 2025, the suspect was arraigned before the Juaboso District Court and was remanded into police custody.

He is expected to reappear on 8 December 2025.

Police say the suspect remains in custody, all exhibits have been secured, and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accomplices involved in the robbery.
