Court denies Charles Bissue’s request to travel amid criminal trial

The High Court has dismissed a request by Charles Bissue, the first accused in an ongoing criminal trial, to temporarily release his passport for international travel, citing insufficient justification.
The ruling, delivered on Monday, May 12, 2025, found that the application lacked merit.
The court noted that the flight ticket presented was purchased after the application had been filed, and the school admission letter submitted was only provisional.
Prosecutors also challenged the legitimacy of the travel plans, arguing that there was no genuine intention to travel.
Following the court’s decision, the case has been adjourned to May 29, 2025.
